I moved back to Charleston, SC after retiring from the U.S. Army. I purchased my home with the help from PennyMac. I was able to stay within my budget and found a home that satisfies my family’s needs. It was one of the easiest transactions that I have ever made.
My wife and I were living in Texas and decided it was time to move back closer to family and friends in Ohio as we are getting close to retirement. While we were searching for homes in Northern Ohio, we came across a home that had just come on the market and looked very familiar to us. It was in fact the first home we ever purchased after getting married 25 years ago! We went and looked at it and still loved it so we bought it again with a VA loan. Oddly enough, the only other time we used the VA to purchase a home was this one 25 years ago. We sold it all those years ago for a work opportunity and never really got a chance to enjoy it so we jumped at the chance to get it back and have officially come full circle. We are home and loving it. Happily Ever After.
Purchasing my home was more than an investment towards my future, but an investment towards my child's future. I felt like I was throwing money away as a renter and was never able to enjoy the space I was living in prior. As a single mom, I was able to conquer being a first-time homebuyer on my own! The reward was showing my daughter that finding our roots and planting them is an accessible part of life that, even as a single mom, could be achieved. It's life’s blessings.
I had two options: Option A) Renew my tiny one bedroom for another entire year, risk getting my car broken into a third time, and continue to make my dog's life miserable. Option B) Bite the bullet while the market is still affordable, give my dog the yard he deserves, and a two car garage all to myself. I went with option B.
My fiancé and I both knew we would be working in the area for a while and decided it was financially smart to not throw our money away by renting, but instead buy our house and get everything we want in it. We have three dogs that we needed a big yard for, and we wanted to make sure we could get exactly that. Plus, being able to put your own touch on a place that is your own is a huge bonus. We couldn’t be more excited to have purchased our very first home!
After being in a long distance relationship, I decided to make the move to Iowa. Having zero loans in the past, I figured I should rent an apartment first to build up my history. After one year, I came to the conclusion that instead of throwing my money into the fire pit, I would invest in something that I could get a return on. I decided to build a house from scratch which PennyMac made possible. I'm happier than I ever was!
I married the love of my life and we bought our house on the same day. As soon as we finished closing, a minister friend of mine came into the Attorney’s office and married us. I'm old-fashioned I guess because she has two little girls and I didn't want us to just live together. The Attorney and the loan officer said this was a first for them.
I grew up in a single-parent home. My mom worked two jobs to support me and my little brother. She worked hard, but we moved from apartment to apartment and were never able to have a place to call “home.” As I became an adult, I dreamed of owning my own home, a place where my kids could grow up in a stable environment with a place they could always call home. My wife and I worked hard, but never could manage to grab a hold of that dream... until last April! We dug ourselves out of debt and low and behold! We are first-time home owners with a grandbaby who will grow up in her papa's house! It took a while to bring this dream to reality, but patience and dedication pays off if you’re willing to persevere. We have been in our house for a little over a year now, and plan on renovating soon.
I was a person who had lost it all, but I was able to move back in with my family. I was stuck and scared to fail again, especially in front of my son, so I became complacent. A pep talk from my mom and dad got the ball rolling and I stepped out on faith. I was able to surprise my son with a home 3 years ago!
This is the first time I’m owning my own home! It’s a little country house but I love it. I had lost my home in a divorce and haven’t been able to call anything mine since. PennyMac made it possible for me to have a home that was all mine.
I bought my house as a first-time buyer and I’m very happy because now I don’t have to worry about where I’m going to live! I had to move from the last three places I was renting from, because they sold the property. I now have peace of mind.
I made the big move to my first home to give my five children peace of mind. We lived in a bad neighborhood, where I paid $700 in rent. I wanted my kids to be able to go outside and play without hearing gunshots all day long. I also wanted something to leave my children once I passed away.
January 24, 2015 was the worst day of my life. My wife was diagnosed with acute leukemia. Fast forward to February, 2017. A rollercoaster of emotions, high hopes and abysmal let downs. Valerie, (Val) had gone through over a year of chemotherapy treatments, including a stem cell transplant, and on a cool morning on the way to one of her daily appointments, something didn’t feel right. She told me, “It’s back, I know it.” She was right. It was back. It was that day she was rushed into treatment to try and get her back into remission. She was in for a month, and one day she said, “I know I’m not going to survive this. I’d love to have a place we own.” In June of 2017, we closed on our home. It was the first time she had seen it and she was so happy. She passed away that December. I am so happy I was able to give her a home.
After being homeless for a period of time, I met my wife in 2008. We got married and after almost 10 years and paying off some bills, we started looking for a house. Using my VA benefits, we found one in Apple Valley, California, a beautiful home. Even though we did not have a down payment, with a VA loan, we were able to make a bid on a home listed at $302,000. The VA inspector came out and priced the house at $275,000, so we thought the deal was dead. It was around the fourth of July, so the sellers said to us, “Since you are veteran and we’re ready to move on to our new house, we’ll go ahead and accept $275,000. It was a miracle! It was so amazing… they sold us the house with all the furnishings worth about $50,000!
We moved for location alone. I am now closer to work and have taken hours off my commute each week. My wife is also a RealtorⓇ, so it is nice to be in a more central location for her to get to any place quickly with less miles on her vehicle. Our house is also in a location that will be a great investment for years to come.
I normally live by the “Keep it Simple” logic. However, my world was turned upside down by a man and an email saying, “Hi, how are you today?” I responded and the story begins! Little did I know we were both renting apartments in the same apartment complex. Both of us are strong believers in faith, universal connections, soul mates, and (for me) love at first sight. A few months later, instead of renting in the same complex, we decided to purchase a home together and unite our families. (Nothing simple about that). Thankfully, we got approved by PennyMac. Our house is more than a house, it’s a home! It keeps us safe and warm, and is a place where we can laugh together, live together, and cry together. Most of all, we know we have one place at the end of the day that we all return to as a family in our new home.
We were a family of five (3 children) that lived in Oregon. Homeownership wasn't in our foreseeable future, as student loan debt and the cost of living was preventing our dream of home from coming true. After we moved to Michigan in 2013, we decided to give homeownership another try. Two years later, we purchased a fixer upper, and have since updated the kitchen — increasing our home value by $50K. Updating the windows, siding, and bathroom is next on our list. Originally this was going to be the home we fix up and use as a down payment for our next home, but it’s grown on us. We love our little home and the sweet equity we have put in thus far. Now, we are empty nesters and look forward to the transformation of our home and the next chapter in life.
My beautiful wife and I were renting for quite some time. We knew there was no investment with renting, so we made the move to purchase our first home. Just a month or so later, we're moving into our first house and expecting our first child. Life moves fast and we're enjoying every moment of it.
We needed extra room in our home since we have such a big family. Buying our house was not only an investment, but kept us from moving from place to place while keeping my child in the same school district.
In April 2014, I gave away or sold just about everything I owned, packed up the cat, my personal belongings and moved from California to Texas. I didn't have a place to live or a job. I lived in a hotel for a month and started my first job 7 weeks later. I was commuting about 65 miles to work one way each day. I knew I couldn’t make this commute much longer, so I found a home to lease about 25 miles from work. A few months later I decided to buy the home. PennyMac provided me the best loan and I have my dream home…a home with a lake view. Thanks to PennyMac, I went from a hotel to a home.
Buying my first time home was a dream come true. It was meant to be and the right time. After living 20 years in rental properties, I decided to take a chance. I already had an idea of the house I wanted. I had a plan and it took me a year until I was ready to give it a shot. I applied for a pre-approval, and to my surprise I had a real chance of buying my first-time home. It was a nerve wracking journey…but at the end it was all worth it. It’s going to be one year soon and I'm very happy in my new house!
As a first time home buyer, there was so much to take on that it was scary. After all the inspections and closing, I was thankful that PennyMac had accepted my loan. They have been the best, most friendly [company] I know. Anytime I had a question about my loan or the escrow, they were there. Thank you so much PennyMac for providing me with the funds to get my home.
As a first-time home buyer, it’s a dream come true for me and especially for my kids. Now I’m working hard to save money to buy another house. Hopefully PennyMac is there again to help me purchase my next home!
I am a single mother of two boys and they have so much energy to burn! I knew that any house I was going to buy had to have a yard for them to do anything they want. It took me a year to save some money and, after that, I began looking. It was intense, unexpected and time consuming looking for the right fit for me and my family. Eventually I saw something for the boys and myself for a starter home and I’m proud of the end result!
My husband and I wanted a huge yard for our dog to run around. We love the outdoors and being in nature. We purchased our first home on 5 acres with private hiking trails. It's a bit of a fixer-upper but it's our own little slice of paradise!
It's been a dream of mine to own a home. After renting cheap and saving cash, I found the home of my dreams and my forever home. PennyMac made all of this possible and the best part of PennyMac is their interactive website. Their platform has tools that are intuitive and help me understand my amortization schedule. I can see where paying a little extra each month will help me pay down principal and the site allows me to go paperless and make online payments that streamlines my budget. Win Win!!
My wife and I were leasing a condo and have a big dog that we would take for walks four to five times a day. We finally decided that we wanted to settle here in Arizona so we started searching for homes. This was also a first-time home buying experience for us. After a few months of searching, we found a home that had both an Arizona and New England feel combined. The house has a fireplace that we may only use five or six times a year, but it is nice. It also has a swimming pool and a backyard for our furry child. The neighborhood is established, as we have met many neighbors who have been here for 15 or more years. We still take Jaxson for long walks, but now we’re enjoying our own home, building great equity and making lots of new acquaintances and friends. Below is our Dog Jaxson and our newest family member, JG the cat. All this is possible because we have a new home and space to grow the family.
When we received the news that we had a new family member on the way (my wife was pregnant) we just knew we had to start looking for our forever home. When we settled on the home we would purchase and found out we were approved we could not be more excited to start our new life in our new home. These were just amazing moments, first becoming new parents, then becoming new homeowners.
I’m a first-time homebuyer because I wanted a better living arrangement for my wife and children. Thank you PennyMac and Veterans United. PennyMac made my home buying experience.
I was saving for a long time and it was the perfect opportunity for me to buy. I also had been renting for so long that I would have nearly paid off my house by now. I love my community, location and all the amenities that came with it.
I grew up in the South in a very complicated situation and eventually as a teenager, ended up homeless on the streets for 3 years. I went from house to house and always dreamed of having my own home, but never thought it was possible. I married an amazing man and we prayed and believed — and now, as a first-time homebuyer, I am more grateful than ever to see what had appeared to be impossible become my reality. So now I’m spreading the word that if I can go from homelessness to homeownership, it can happen to anyone.
I am a first-time homebuyer and so excited that I finally found the perfect home! I am a single mom and Army Veteran with one child. It has been my dream for a long time to own a home and after two years of looking we finally found our home! It's such an amazing feeling to give my son a home of our own and not waste money on renting any longer!
I’m almost 42 years old and have been paying rent every month to keep a roof over my head for over 20 years! All that money spent on rent for over two decades is a small fortune! I decided it was time for that to change and looked into a home loan. I found a house 1 ½ blocks from my place of employment, and decided to go for it. I’m now living in the house and so far so good.
What moved me was motivation, dedication, and determination. I was a struggling single mother of five children who was getting tired of annual rent increases and feeling trapped in poverty. I had a vision for my children to have a stable home they could one day bring their own children to. I wanted the luxury of decorating my home to mesh with my personality and call it my own. I was determined to show my children the difference between struggling to just stay afloat and taking those real struggles of everyday life and using them to create their own success. #WhatMovedMe? In my struggle I FINALLY surrendered all my fears as a single mother. My finances began to fall into place and the timing of my lease ending and my home purchase was beautifully orchestrated. The house I now call my own is PERFECT. My home reminds me of the warmth of my Grandma. I knew it was the one for me when I walked in and IMMEDIATELY knew where I would put my Christmas tree. #ProudFirstTimeHomeowner!
I rented an apartment for 7 years after my ex-husband and I split up. I was tired of renting and didn’t want my son, almost 13 now, growing up completely in an apartment. I didn’t think it was possible, but an amazing loan officer made it happen: I bought my first home. Now we are making new memories and traditions in our new home. Best decision I’ve ever made as a single mom. Thank you PennyMac for an easy transition.
I bought my home for the size of the yard and to have a bigger home for my furry babies. Also, I wanted to enjoy my own home after renting for so long. I love my house and so do my furry babies.
We bought a home with my son’s family that came with an in-law apartment. We now have the apartment and a huge yard for our two puppies. My son, his wife and two kids have the top two floors and deck. Perfect for our two families!
We are first-time homebuyers in our mid-40's. This is our retirement home. We have a nice yard just big enough for our old dog and a small garden. We are tucked away close to the mountains in South Carolina. We had searched for a long time and found almost everything we were looking for. We love our home and the location. And PennyMac has made everything simple and easy. We are just so fortunate to be where we are and appreciate what we have.
I have never owned my own home. I married a veteran and together we purchased my first home, his third, but who’s counting. I love it and am so very happy to be a part of the PennyMac family too! I now have a gift to pass on to our four daughters.
I was a first-time homebuyer and getting married. My wife and I were able to build our dream home just in time to start our married life together. We were at the build site almost every day and always excited to see what had been done. It's been a year now since we moved in and we still get that feeling of pride and wonder when we come home. We smile and think “Wow, this is really our home.”
With seven grandchildren living up a busy highway from me, I decided the highway must go so I could have more time to enjoy each and every one of them. The perfect neighborhood and house between all of them got rid of my need for highway travel. More time and more fun now.
Our family has grown to become a larger blended family, so we needed space. Location was important to us too. We blended two homes into one and are living happily ever after. Now we are seeking a larger home to make sure that we have plenty of space. PennyMac has been there for my family every step of the way! As our careers grow, so do our children and family. We are stoked to be with PennyMac.
My husband and I moved into our home as first-time home buyers! We bought it a month before we got married and absolutely fell in love with our home (and the gorgeous acreage) as soon as we saw it. We are thankful for our perfect first home and the space it gives us. This house actually came at the perfect time. We had been house-hunting for a few months before and couldn't find anything. We were planning on putting money down on an apartment that day and just wanted to give one last look at homes. So we drove where we hadn't looked before and happened upon this one. We put in an offer that night and the deal went through in a matter of days! We are very blessed! We are celebrating two years of homeownership this July!
Beautiful home!!! We have so much room in this house that we just adopted our first foster child to share this new home experience with.
We bought this as our first home but there were other reasons behind it too. My father was critically ill in his last stage of kidney cancer and heart disease. We wanted him to have a master bedroom just like we did, with enough room so he could have his peritonealdialyse (home dialysis) with ease and be just 15 minutes away from his hospital. My father just passed away, but I feel very content and proud that I was able to buy a house that my father lived happily in and where he was so proud of his daughter and son-in-law. We went through some financial hardships too but we are a happy family after all.
We wanted to buy our home in Maricopa, AZ and our home builder D.R. Horton and PennyMac made it happen. This is our first home and my wife and I and our pets love it. I work in town, so this location is perfect. Financing was easy. Thank you!
I recently purchased a single home since getting out of the military in Mississippi close to where my grown-up children live. I have to say it's nice to know you can trust to make an easy transition with a company that cares about your financial future.
We were fortunate to find a new subdivision being built and the builder paid our closing costs. Because our house is considered to be in a rural area, we were able to get a loan that is USDA guaranteed by the government with no private mortgage insurance required. So we built our house with no money down and no closing costs. We got back the $2,500 earnest money we put down and the final appraisal cost was also refunded. I couldn’t even move into a rental for zero cost. Very happy with PennyMac.
We went from a family of four to a family of eight! Unfortunate circumstances led us to take custody of my three nieces and one nephew. All eight of us were in a 1500-square-foot, 3-bedroom condo. We were in need of a new home and ended up finding a great place out in the country with lots of space, inside and out.
I was a single mom and had never owned a home before. I worked very hard to clean up my credit, learned to budget, and was finally able to buy my first home last year!!! The kids love it!! There's such a sense of peace knowing that it's MY HOME.
So came the day I said to myself “I am DONE renting!” I had an IRA that had been sitting around for a rainy day and I honestly never in a million years thought that I, a single mom of two with recovering credit from bankruptcy years prior, could possibly buy a home of my own. Until I was introduced to my realtor. She made all my dreams come to light. Homes really can happen for folks in situations like mine. Sure, my first home isn’t my “picture perfect” dream home, but slowly and surely I’m going through some small repairs and saving for my ultimate “remodel” to make it what I want. That’s the joy of a first home. Don’t get me wrong, there were some heartaches as well on the hunt, but the price was right and the percentage was on target! PennyMac has been a joy to take this leap with. I had questions about escrow accounts and every email sent was answered and every call placed was handled professionally. I can honestly say, I am over the moon excited... Two years later even!
As a family of six, my husband and I decided to purchase a home for the first time. We wanted our children to have a sense of what it feels like to have a home of their own. We wanted them to experience marking their heights on the wall at the beginning of the school year and comparing them to the next year’s heights. Picking out rooms to paint any color our hearts desire and giving our kids the freedom to run and play throughout the house and have fun was our driving force to purchase our first home. We knew that it would be a really big decision and that we would take on a huge responsibility, but knowing that we would be homeowners and could provide a place for our children to grow up in is priceless. After two years of being homeowners, driving up to our home still feels really good.
I moved to this home because my last home did not have a yard and my kids were growing up not knowing what it is to go outside, dig holes, get dirty, and get into a little trouble. They were stuck on the gaming console and phones 24/7. Now, as soon as we get home after a day of work and school, they run to see who can feed the horses, pigs, and chickens. I love my house, the area that it is in, and the big yard. Thank you PennyMac for financing my home.
I purchased a home because I was paying $1,200 for rent. Now I am paying $1,000 and the house is mine. I am grateful that PennyMac gave me a loan to purchase a house. Now I can live comfortably and my dog has a big yard to play in.
Recently moving back to my hometown from Nashville, I decided it was time to stop throwing money away in rent and invest in a home for myself and my future. After saving up for a down payment, I decided to put down roots in the Lou where I grew up. Home shopping was a long journey for me — being a single female, I was set on my preferred location and price range and I also wanted move-in ready. Finally, I walked into a home and felt the connection I was looking for, put in an offer, and just like that… it was mine! PennyMac made the loan process quick and painless. Now, I finally have a place to call home.*
Naturally, as a couple of recently married dog lovers, we wasted no time expanding our family with a new puppy. Now, with two large dogs, a German Shepherd (Maverick) and a Husky (Ahwahnee), it was clear we needed more room than our little apartment provided. To add to the urgency, finding a rental property that allowed our dogs was next to impossible, especially due to their size and the preconceived aggressive nature of German Shepherds. “Not my boy, Maverick,” I’d exclaim… to no avail. Many promises and dog kisses later, we still couldn’t get past the rental application stage, so the search to buy our first home began. With PennyMac’s help on our loan, we settled in a great neighborhood and our kids dogs finally have plenty of room to play!*
After enduring the rental scene throughout our young adult years, my boyfriend and I knew that it was time for a change. Ready to take the next step and make a home that was truly our own, we tried to narrow down our “must haves.” There were so many different qualities that we wanted, but knew that in the end,the home we chose had to have room to grow. House shopping was a breeze and we were able to find the one that had it all — a home with the 1930’s St. Louis character we wanted and a fenced-in backyard for our pups (which was the perfect cherry on top!). In just a few short months, we left our loft apartment to move into our dream home, all thanks to PennyMac!*
Seven years ago, we decided to make the move from New Jersey to California for my soon-to-be husband’s new job. Over 2,780 miles later, we arrived at our two bedroom apartment in Calabasas. Five years of renting and one wedding later, our apartment seemed to be shrinking while rent was growing. Knowing we wanted to start a family soon, we began the search for our first home near the end of 2017. In January 2018, we rang in the new year with our new home! Luckily we found our dream home when we did, because just one month later, the sonogram showed a little girl, making us a family of three.*
Making the move across the Mississippi for the beard of my dreams (pictured below) was a big change. Being new to the area, we wanted city living and socialization. After three years, we decided to make it permanent… us and Missouri. So in February 2017, we celebrated our engagement dinner with toasted ravioli instead of the Pittsburgh pierogi. We knew with the upcoming nuptials (and wedding presents) that we’d need more space to start our life together, so we packed up our Soulard apartment in June of 2017 and moved to our cul de sac in the suburbs and couldn’t be happier.*
